SikkimBy road

Sikkim by road.

From the Teesta to the Tibetan plateau in a day's drive. Here is how the state fits together, and how long each road takes.

When to go

October to December for clear skies and Kanchenjunga; March and April for rhododendrons; avoid June to September when landslides close roads. Tsomgo may freeze in January and February; the North Sikkim road opens and closes with the weather.

Getting there

Bagdogra Airport and NJP station are the usual arrivals, about four hours from Gangtok.

Pakyong airport is closer but flights are limited.

Permits

Indian travellers need no permit to enter Sikkim. Tsomgo Lake, Nathu La, Zuluk and North Sikkim need a protected area permit, which we arrange with your booking. All permit rules
